Early Warning Signs for Lymphoma

Early Warning Signs for Lymphoma

Lymphoma is a type of cancer that usually develops in the immune system cells that are responsible for fighting off infections. These particular cells are located in the lymph nodes, thymus, spleen, bone marrow, and other parts of the human body. When a person is affected by lymphoma, the lymphocytes go through changes and get out of control.

Let us study some of the early lymphoma signs:

  • Sudden weight loss
Sudden weight loss refers to when a person loses weight in a considerably short amount of time without any explanation. Sure, we all diet and try and lose fat, but it is a health concern when a person loses weight all of a sudden without even trying. Reports state that people who have lymphoma might lose about or even more than 10% of their body weight within a short span of six months.
  • Weakness/fatigue
It is quite normal to feel tired after a long day at work. Those who have weak stamina might get tired very quickly after engaging in a physical task. But being tired all the time is something that is not normal. Some of the common causes of feeling tired are underactive thyroid, anemia, anxiety, depression, glandular fever, and chronic fatigue syndrome. Although the exact reason why lymphoma causes fatigue is still unknown, it still is a known cause.
  • Bouts of fever
A rise in the body temperature of a person is referred to as a fever. Fevers are mainly caused due to certain infections. Although not one of the main ones, lymphoma is one of the rare causes of fever. This is because the lymphoma cells are responsible for producing certain chemicals that increase your body temperature.
  • Sweating at night
Lymphoma is not the only cause of a person sweating at night. The most common reasons for sweating at night are anxiety, viral infection, menopause, and even certain medications. The exact reason why lymphoma causes a person to sweat at night is still unknown; it could be because of the temperature due to which a person’s body temperature increases.
  • Itchy skin
Itchy skin is mostly caused due to skin conditions like eczema or even menopause. Itchy skin is, however, a very common symptom of people who have lymphoma. This is mainly due to certain chemicals released by a person’s immune system to fight off the lymphoma cells.
  • Pressure in the chest
Swollen lymph nodes are a common symptom among those who have lymphoma. Those people who have lymphoma might experience a certain uneasy pressure in the chest, short breaths, loud breathing, and even dry coughs. Lymph nodes can pressurize a person’s lungs, airways, or even the blood vessels.

So, these are some of the early lymphoma signs that one should be wary about.
